How the book came about
The research started in 1983 at the crash site. Eugène Timmermans told his story there, which led to Michel Paulissen — and finally to the reunion between Paulissen and navigator Philip Pepper, forty years after the night of the crash. Pepper wrote the foreword.
About the author
Danny (Daniel) Basteyns, a city child, spent years of school holidays out in the country at Hendrieken-Voort: a carefree time of mischief, swimming and fishing in the Molenbeek and building huts on the Kleeberg. There he learned the fruits of Haspengouw — from strawberry to gooseberry, from cooking plum to Bigarreau cherry, from Golden Delicious to St Remy pear. He is the founder of the Hendrycken-Voerda local heritage society.
